Today I just wanted to share my 3 favorite deal a day sites, all of which are from the same company, woot!
First of all, for those of you who are unfamiliar, deal a day sites are sites that offer one deal each day on a some product. Typically it’s a technology product, but could be anything.
The woot! name on the internet ecompasses woot.com, shirt.woot.com, sellout.woot.com, and wine.woot.com. I’ve never used wine.woot.com, so I can’t speak to it’s strengths or weaknesses, but I have used the other three quite a bit, and am a regular woot! checker.
Woot.com is the most famout of the sites. It typically offers a technology item each day for a much discounted price. One day you may find refurbished iPods, the next a 37 inch Plasma TV, and the next a remote control car. You never know what they may have, but you do know that it’s almost always going to be a great deal. Also, you may be thinking that the prices are low because they gouge you on shipping, but that’s not the case. Whether you are buying a 5 oz memory card or a 75 lb television, standard shipping is always $5.00! Every so often woot! will have a woot off where they offer deal after deal until they decide they’ve had enough. This is when one of their most popular items shows up, the “Bag of Crap.” Woot! makes no promise as to what’s in the bag other than it will certainly be “crappy”, and it only costs 1 dollar plus shipping. You can buy up to three of anything, so they encourage buying 3 bags. Reports have ranged from mousepads to televisions being in the bags. I’m still waiting on my first time to get lucky enough to buy one!
Shirt.woot.com is woot!’s t-shirt site. They sell a different, unique to the site shirt everyday. Every shirt is $10.00 with free shipping in its first run on the site, or you can pay $5.00 to have it overnighted. I’ve bought some quite funny shirts from the site, and have hooked some of my friends on the site also. If you miss the shirts they are still around, but harder to find, for $15.00 until they get “reckoned” for not selling enough. Shirt.woot’s version of a “woot off” is the random shirt day where you just pay a reduced rate for the shirt but don’t know what you are getting.
Sellout.woot.com is for everything that doesn’t sell much on woot! or whatever they have too many of. The price tags at sellout.woot are typically lower than woot. Sometimes you will find an item on woot! for one price and a few weeks later it’ll show up on sellout.woot for cheaper, this doesn’t happen often, but has been known to happen. Also, once they both offered the same product on the same day, but it was cheaper on sellout.woot. Woot! promptly lowered the price on the main site to rememdy it.
The only drawback to the site is that the shipping is very slow. You can pay for overnight, but processing time for your order may take up to 5 days (other than at shirt.woot where overnight literally means you get the shirt the next day), so you will still have to wait for that to occur. That said, however, the deals are so good I really don’t mind waiting.
