ObjectDock – Bringing Mac Features to Windows

Apple just redefined the notebook with their new MacBook line.  The notebook is sleek, sturdy, and expensive.  It also runs Apple’s Macintosh OSX Leopard.  Not everyone can afford the new MacBooks, but many would love to have the functionality of that fancy program dock at the bottom of the screen.  That’s where ObjectDock comes in.

Take a look at the picture above, think it is from a Mac?  Think again!  As can be seen below, it’s from my Windows Vista machine.

Now, some people would call me a poser (especially since I have that nifty Apple background) but I am absolutely loving the functionality of the dock at the bottom of the screen.  You can customize the programs you want on the dock, as well as the icons for each program.  The dock can be positioned wherever you want it and can be set to hide when you are using another program.

You can also resize the icons to make it as large or as small as you like.  The icons will enlarge as you scroll through them, you can see this below.

Using the dock in addition to hiding the taskbar really opens up real estate on the screen which is really nice for internet browsing or document writing.  Also, the program features “docklets” which are small programs that run inside the dock.  Some great docklets are the weather docklet which will show the weather and a 5 day forecast inside your dock, the search from dock docklet, and the PC monitor.  I have each of those installed, but hundreds more are available.

I have only used the ObjectDock free edition, but for those who need more features a “plus” version can be purchased for about 20 dollars.  I’ve found this tool to greatly enhance my computing experience.  I may not have a Mac, but at least I can run my most frequently used programs from this really cool, customizable program.  Try it out!  You can download it from ObjectDock.com.
